Y&R: Victor (Eric Braeden) plans to give Kevin (Greg Rikaart) the credit for Billy's life-saving bone marrow transplant.

Billy’s decision to abandon Victoria and his family to allegedly seek refuge in Hong Kong had major ramifications on his family, but things are about to get a whole lot worse when his young daughter, Delia, falls dangerously ill.

Chloe is heart-broken when she is told that Delia has leukaemia and needs an immediate bone marrow transplant to survive, so a concerned Victoria sets out to find her husband and bring him home to face his responsibilities.

Victoria goes to Victor asking for his help to track down Billy, but he refuses to help and shuts the door. But Victor makes secret plans to leave town and it soon becomes apparent why – Billy is imprisoned in a dungeon in Myanmar!

He offers to bail Billy out on the strict condition that he never goes near Victoria again. Billy agrees, knowing that it’s his only option, but the relief is short-lived when he learns his daughter has leukaemia and is undergoing chemotherapy.

Billy desperately wants to rush to his daughters bedside, but Victor forbids the visit and won’t let him set eyes on Delia. Instead, he is tested for bone marrow compatibility, but when he returns a positive match, the donation will is attributed to Kevin.

Despite the circumstances, Billy is relieved that his daughter will be receiving sufficient treatment, and so he decides to try reconcile with Victoria. As Billy secretly stalks his wife – who also cant stop thinking about her husband – he is devastated to find Victoria in Sams arms.

Things seem to on a downward spiral for Billy, and he realises he may have a dirty fight on his hands if he wants to win his wife back.

Kate Linder celebrates 30 years on Y&R

May 3rd, 2012 by Soap World | No Comments | Filed in The Young and the Restless

WHAT AN HONOUR: Kate Linder recieved a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2008. (Photographer: Bob Freeman)

It was anything but a promising beginning for Kate Linder, who was hired for one day, to say one line – “dinner is served” – on The Young and the Restless. But 30- years later, the woman who plays Katherine Chancellor’s loyal maid is still very much a key member of the soap’s cast.

Linder well remembers her first day on set, and meeting Jeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor) in the show’s make-up room. “I introduced myself and said, ‘I’m playing your maid today’, and Jeanne said, ‘Well it’s about time!’ I’ve loved her from then on!”

But at this early stage on screen, Linder’s character as Mrs. Chancellor’s maid didn’t even have a name, and it wasn’t until Jeanne arbitrarily called her Esther, that the writers started including the name in the scripts.

Linder’s character as Esther Valentine has been one of emotional highs and lows, not only housekeeper, but also confidante to the powerful Chancellor dame. Her character has been perennially unlucky in love with both of her brief marriages being to con-men only after the Chancellor fortune. She and her boss have also been kidnapped twice by fortune-hunters, which has resulted in them replying on one another for moral support.

But amongst all the drama, Esther has experienced a lot of joy. “My favorite storylines was the birth of my [on-screen] daughter, Kate, now referred to as Chloe,” says Linder. “My daughter returned to Genoa City from boarding school and changed her name to Chloe since she did not want others to know that she was the daughter of the maid…[but] she eventually came to embrace it.”

But if you’re Kate Linder, you don’t quit your job as a United Airlines flight attendant for what was suppose to be a one-day, one-line role on The Young and the Restless

To this day, Linder enjoys the best of both worlds – on the air and in the air, and has worked at both jobs simultaneously for the past 30-years.  “Acting is my life,” says Linder.  “It’s what I do for a living and my creative satisfaction.  Flying is what I do to stay grounded as long as I can work it into my schedule.”

The Young and the Restless has afforded me many opportunities that I would never have gotten to do otherwise,” says Linder. “Some of my favorites have been participating in four USO tours, serving as a Governor of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for four years, and being the celebrity spokesperson for The ALS Association for the past seven years.”

“Over the years, I have had the most incredible experiences on and off the show [and] I feel very blessed to be on the top-rated soap opera…” says Linder. “Playing Esther, alongside such amazing actors, has been the thrill of a lifetime, made all the more memorable by the support of such wonderful fans.”

Here’s hoping we see Linder on our screens for many more years to come!

Who killed Diane?

March 15th, 2012 by Soap World | No Comments | Filed in The Young and the Restless

WHODUNIT: Diane certainly had more than her fair share of enemies, but who killed her? (Source: Heaven Hollywood)

When Diane finally takes revenge on her enemies in The Young and the Restless, including having Victor arrested for domestic abuse, things don’t turn out well for her. Karma strikes, and she is found murdered and floating face-down in the park pond.

As the police investigation begins, Adam, Ashley, Abby, Nick, Victor, Nikki, Phyllis, Tucker and Jack all behave in an uncanny manner and frantically scramble to hide evidence that may link them to the crime. But with so many suspects, who killed her?

Adam definitely has a motive seek revenge after Diane double-crossed him, and dobbed him in to the Securities and Exchange Commission. But Ashley appears to be equally suspicious and her motive is straightforward: she discovers that her husband, Tucker, cheated on her with Diane. But on top of that,  Diane also leaked a tape to the press of Ashley’s daughter, Abby, confessing to Tucker’s attempted murder. All three suspects hold reasons for an act of revenge- who knows what they’re capable of.

Next on the list of suspects is Nick, who had previously been romantically involved with Diane. Infuriated with Diane’s treatment of his family and her threatening behaviours, he has a massive confrontation with her. His phone falls to the ground and the impact of the fall dials Ashley’s number and leaves a voicemail message of Nick threatening to kill Diane. Did Nick really follow through with his verbal threats?

With Diane trying to destroy Victor’s entire family, he definitely has plenty of reasons to want her dead. He was also stopped trying to fly out of Genoa City the night of her murder – was he trying to flee the scene? Nikki also comes under suspicion and has plenty of motive to seek revenge after Diane leaked photos to the tabloid press of Victor and Nikki in a moment of passion. Could this have been enough to push Nikki over the edge?

Phyllis, Tucker and Jack are also plausible suspects. Phyllis has never been a fan of Diane, so when an acrylic nail is found at the crime scene and Phyllis books in for a manicure the next day, evidence speaks loud and clear. Tucker claims to have been at home at the time of Diane’s murder, but we know this isn’t the case. And when Jack discovered Diane had sent their son Kyle to Switzerland without telling him, he was fuming. But could Jack really kill the mother of his child?

With so many suspects, who do you think killed Diane?
